Joining the Troop

If you’re a boy age 11, or at least 10 and have completed the fifth grade, or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award, up to 17 years old and interested in Scouting, please join us for one of three upcoming events to experience a bit of 890 Scouting for yourself:

Troop 890’s Annual Olympics Campout

Once each year we meet on a Friday evening around 6 p.m. at Lake Highlands United Methodist church, then drive just North of McKinney for a weekend of fun activities for you and your boys. There will be Broomball, Fat Bat, Riflery, Archery, Soap Box Derby races and more plus an information meeting for parents. Then we’ll cap the night off with a fried turkey feast and cobbler for dessert. There is no cost for this event.

If you would like to join as a new 1st year Boy Scout or are just interested in visiting with us, please email (scoutmaster at troop890 dot org) for more information.

Weekly Troop Meetings

You are always welcome to come to a troop meeting. The Troop meets each Monday night at 7:00 during the school year with the exception of the Monday after campouts and breaks over the Christmas Holidays and Summer. Click here to view the troop calendar calendar.

Transferring to Troop 890

Feel free to contact the Scoutmaster via email (scoutmaster at troop890 dot org ) to learn more about joining the Troop. If you are a boy 12 or older, or a Scout that would like to transfer to Troop 890, please contact our Scoutmaster for information.

First Year Program and Scoutmaster

Troop 890 has a program specifically for new Scouts’ first year with the troop. This is led by the First Year Assistant Scoutmaster who guides these boys towards achieving First Class Scout rank over their first year of scouting. He will also mentor them as they seek further rank advancement. See the 1st Year Troop page for details on this Troop 890 program, including information for new parents.
